What is the single most important part for keeping any car, truck or buggy going fast? Smooth-running ball bearings, most would say. The only real problem with ball bearings is that over time and depending on conditions, they do take on dirt and become gritty. Most commonly available ball bearings feature steel shields that help protect the bearing from dirt and contaminants such as water, but because the shields are made of steel, a small gap exists between the shield and the inner race, allowing some dirt and water to get in anyway.
